Figure 8 Straps: Helpful Tips

Adding a Twist to Shorten Your Straps

If you’ve bought some Figure 8 straps and find that they are slightly too long, you can add in a twist or two to adjust the straps to the correct size for your wrist/hand.

Here’s how:

Step 1: Start off by placing your hand inside one of the loops

Step 2, 3, 4, 5: Add in as many twists as required using your other hand

Step 6: Complete the number of twists needed for the desired tightness

You are now ready to use your Figure 8 straps

Setting up on the bar

Getting yourself set up on the bar with the Figure 8 straps is a different technique to that used for the more traditional lasso style straps.

Here’s how it's done:

Step 1: Place your hand(s) in one of the loops. Approach the bar and place the twist of the Figure 8 under the bar

Step 2, 3: Slip your hand through the free loop in the Figure 8 as shown. If needed, you can use your other hand to assist with this.

Step 4: Grab the bar with your hand as normal. The Figure 8s should be hooked onto the bar on the outside of your hand as shown

Setting up on the bar (Part 2)

There is a bit of a technique to arranging your hands and the straps on the bar. For best results, the fabric should be on the outside of your hands (i.e. between your hands and the plates), Holding onto the centre crossover section of the strap will not work.

To get the best use of your Figure 8s, they should be placed on the bar so that the anchor point of the Figure 8s (the center) is hooked onto the bar on the outside of the hand as shown in the bottom photos.

Wrist Wraps: Making the Most of Your Wrist Wraps

With their unique, twin thumb-loop design, we’ve come up with four different ways to fasten the IRON APE wrist wraps. With all of the methods, you can vary the amount of tension you use when wrapping the material, to alter the amount of support you get. Just don’t pull them so hard you cut off your circulation! Also, the rubber tag is just there to make undoing the wraps easier, it’s not really designed to help you pull them tight when putting them on.

Method 1: Using the traditional thumb loop

Step 1: Pass your thumb through the loop, and let the
wrap hang down. Note that the inline loop needs to be against your skin.

Step 2: Grab hold of the wrap material, pull it taut, and
start to wrap the material around the wrist. Vary the amount of pull to get the fit you prefer

Step 3: Continue to wrap around the wrist (it may help to hold the wrap against your body to maintain tension). You should get 3-4 wraps depending on
wrist size and length of wrap

Step 4: Press the hook part of the fastening against the loops, and unhook the loop from your thumb (or not, it’s your choice). You’re now ready to press!

Method 2: Using the inline thumb loop

The second way to fasten the wraps is to start off by putting your thumb through the secondary, inline loop that runs across the material

After that, it’s much the same as for Method 1, except that we have found you don’t need to start applying tension until the first loop around the wrist is almost complete.

If you start to pull earlier than that, then you don’t get much more support, but it can make getting the thumb loop off more difficult (again, if you want to – you don’t have to)

Method 3: Making a hoop

Step 1: Pass the hook fastening through the inline loop,
and pull the material through until it is the right size to fit over the wrist

Step 2: Position the wrap over your wrist, and pull the hoop tight. Now wrap the material around the wrist, varying the pull to get the fit you prefer

Step 3: Continue to wrap around the wrist. It may help to hold the wrap against your body to maintain tension

Step 4: Press the hook part of the fastening against the loops. You’re now ready to press!

Method 4: The reverse hoop

Step 1: With the hook fastening aligned to be on the inside of the strap, push the tag through the inline loop. Pull the wrap material through until it is the right size to fit over the wrist

Step 2: Put the loop over the wrist, and pull the wrap backwards, against the elastic loop to take up the slack

Step 3: Continue to wrap around the wrist. It may help to hold the wrap against your body to maintain tension

Step 4: Press the hook part of the fastening against the loops.
You’re now ready to press!
